Compare Net 15 and Net 30 using agreed due dates, actual collection history and annual invoicing. Evaluate deposits and early-payment discounts separately.
Make the starting event explicit
State whether the clock starts at invoice issue, receipt, acceptance or another agreed milestone. Show a calendar due date alongside the term. Also identify invoice submission requirements, purchase-order numbers and the person who can approve payment.
A shorter term on an invoice may not change an existing contract. Resolve conflicting terms before starting work or renewing the engagement. There is no verified universal average here saying Net 15 pays on day 22 or Net 30 pays on day 38.

At $10,000 per month, moving from 30 days to 15 days changes its receivables estimate by $10,000 ÷ 30 × 15 = $5,000. The article's annual/365 method gives $4,931.51 for the same 15-day comparison. These are separate stated planning conventions, so keep each calculation internally consistent rather than mixing their outputs.

Do not assign a risk score from the term alone. Net 15 with repeated disputes can be less predictable than Net 30 with a reliable process. Review actual invoice-to-cash days, preferably weighted by invoice value, alongside the written agreement.
Price an early-payment discount explicitly
In a worked $10,000 “2/10 Net 30” offer, the client pays $9,800 by day 10 instead of $10,000 by day 30. You give up $200 for 20 days earlier payment if the alternative really is collection on day 30.
The simple annualized comparison is ($200 ÷ $9,800) × (365 ÷ 20) = 37.24%. This is a comparison rate, not a compounded APR or a claim that every discount is uneconomic. At an assumed 8% funding cost, the comparable 20-day cost of $9,800 is $42.96. Evaluate administrative or collection benefits separately rather than assuming they exceed the $200 discount.
Implement the agreement you can sustain
Record the payment trigger, due date, invoice route and any milestone or deposit structure. Confirm receipt early enough to resolve missing information before the due date. If payment becomes late, ask for a specific payment date and reconcile any dispute.
